CAfE CEO Merv Altments addressed the Gas Industry Forum in Taupo on 20 October 2011. He outlined the background and role of CAfE as well as projects that the Agency has underway.
The purpose of the Sustainable Energy Strategy is to establish a framework that will result in …. [a] move towards an energy sustainable way of life. The Strategy suggests a set of initiatives, or action plans, designed to encourage, advise, assist and make individuals, commerce and industry more aware of the critical energy issues and take appropriate action.”
Merv outlined the District Energy Scheme which is at RFP stage, the energy database which has already issued the first energy use data for Christchurch and the proposed Energy Advisory Service
The Design Advisory Service is for Christchurch for rebuilds and repairs and:
- Will provide a free consultancy service to building owners and architects on energy efficient design opportunities
- Consultancy service is provided to influence the build at the concept design stage rather than at a later stage.
- Will link in with work of EECA in his space
- Will support other green build initiatives Operating from early 2012
