Schools Energy Programme is being piloted in Christchurch

Thu, 23/08/2012 - 8:12am -- sam

Four Christchurch schools have been chosen to pilot a programme to reduce power use and develop energy efficient practices.

The year-long pilot will help schools understand how they use energy and where they can make changes to both equipment and behaviours that will help them reduce their monthly bills.

The four schools have been selected, they are Linwood North, Cashmere High School, Cashmere Primary and Our Lady of Fatima.

Insulate Christchurch homes as part of the rebuild

Thu, 17/11/2011 - 1:10pm -- sam

The rebuild of Christchurch is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve energy use and home heating. To put up walls without insulation makes no sense. Given we already know a significant proportion of Christchurch housing is under-insulated, now is the time to get it right.” The Christchurch Agency for Energy (CAfE) supports the view that it makes more sense to insulate houses as the walls are repaired.

Mon, 22/08/2011 - 6:06pm -- sam

MEDIA RELEASE 23/08/2011. Today the Christchurch Agency for Energy (CAfE) released the first Christchurch energy use statistics, from the Christchurch Energy Database, which show the February 2011 earthquake reduced energy consumption in the City by 8.3%, and that return to pre-earthquakes levels of energy consumption is proving to be very gradual.

Energy generation opportunities

Mon, 04/07/2011 - 12:27pm -- sam

The future will see a greater range of renewable energy generation and CAfE will be at the forefront of identifying Christchurch energy opportunities.

Greater use of renewable energy sources requires reliable and economic supply of power.  These sources will need to be established and developed, and CAfE will be there to assist in this process.

CAfE, in partnership with Orion, Christchurch City Council, ECAN, Meridian Energy, TrustPower and others will identify, foster, encourage and support identification of sites and opportunities for renewable power generation.
