Welcome
CAfE is the official energy agency for Christchurch. We are committed to developing Christchurch as an energy-smart city.
An important issue in the new Christchurch will be planning for transport, this is particularly important considering that transport fuel is the largest energy use in our city. A reduction in 1% of fuel would save more than $6m annually, and reducing journeys, combining transport of goods, and better traffic flow will have financial, environmental and infrastructural benefits.
In 2012/13, CAfE will look at developing a greater appreciation of transport issues and costs and what avenues there may be for better use of energy.
There are no figures on the use of private and company vehicles: their start and end points for journeys; speed restrictions on vehicles when they travel; goods transport, and how much is shifted in small vehicles rather than trucks; timing of travel and so on.
This project is scheduled for late 2012.
